About 58 years ago, I was born to tenant farmers Ogle and Allen Pierce on the banks of Green River in Green County, Kentucky. I guess that explains why I love being around water. I went to the public schools of Green County, graduating in 1963. During High School years, I received my calling, becoming a teacher. I entered Campbellsville College (then) now it is University, to become a teacher. That became a reality in 1967. I taught in Marion County for 9 years and Taylor County for 18 years.I also attended Western Kentucky University for 60 post graduate hours.

In 1964, I married Margy Allen, daughter of Henry and Willya Allen. To this union, came two children, Jack and Jill. They have given us two wonderful grandchildren each, Courtney, Emily, Jalynn and Natalie.

During my teaching tenure in Marion County, I began to play around with photography. I sold my first shotgun and rifle to buy a darkroom outfit. I was off and running into a long hobby and business in photography. In 1990, I realized a dream, that of owning my own studio. I purchased Supertone Studio from Mr. Herman Rattliff and Mr. Raymond Burris who began the studio in 1949. In 1998, I sold this studio and continued working with the new owners until January of 2003. I am currently beginning a new portrait studio located in Historic Downtown Campbellsville.

I learned photography from reading, asking questions and a lot of practice. The biggest help was joining Kentucky Professional Photographers Association. I have attended hours and hours of seminars on the subjects of Photography and the business aspects of running a studio. At the same time, I have met and become friends with photographers all across this state. I have served Kentucky's photographers on the Board of Directors of KPPA for six years. Beginning in black and white, stepping up to color and now very much in digital. My first real camera was a used Nikon F2, which I still have. I have progressed through a RB67, Bronica, Hasselblad, EOS1 and now Canon's D30. My current equipment list includes the Hasselblad, EOS1, and the D30. Most of the photos on this site was created by the D30. Return to home page.
